X-Rays and Infections!

Sweet sassy molassy… I noticed that the top of my foot was looking a bit raw. In the shower the other night, it hurt to have water droplets land on top of my foot. I had very tender skin, it was bright red and shiny, and I was having foul-smelling yellow discharge. I was pretty [...]

Light at the end of the tunnel!

I got a call from someone at the hospital that does the insurance stuff. She told me I have a $178,000 lien on my name now. I told her about the social worker who gave me the name of the shysters I can’t get rid of.
It’s apparently very very veryveryveryveryvery wrong to give a patient [...]

Bankruptcy

Looks like unless some friggin’ miracle happens, I get to file for bankruptcy.
I’m only 21.
I spoke with the lawyer that prepared my parents’ wills. He said that these people did sound shady. Since I was given just one name by the social worker, she probably  did have a stake in my signing on with them. [...]

Duress and Capacity

I’ve been meaning to write this for about a week now. I haven’t been able to focus for much longer than a few minutes.
That contract should NOT be valid. I was under a ridiculous amount of stress, on enough pain pills to put a herd of cattle to sleep, I’d had several surgeries in the [...]

More Bills!

I just got another bill in the mail… My Emergency Room visit was $10,587, just for the individual doctors. Dunno what it is according to the hospital. Total now, not including follow-up visits, physical therapy, and my treatment for PTSD is about $220,000. Joy.
And again, the lawyers haven’t mentioned paying anyone but themselves. I’m just [...]

Before and After…

I have a whole bunch of random pictures on my iPhone. I went through my iPhone camera to find some before and after shots. It’s just an interesting (and sobering) comparison.
My calves before the accident. Yes, they weren’t the most spectacular, but they were my calves that were slowly getting to cyclist-nice.

My feet…. and just [...]

Guest post: Mom

Note: I thought it would be an interesting exercise to get other people’s experiences of the wreck. I wasn’t the only person affected–far from it. Here’s what my mom had to say. If you’d like to email her, send it to me kt@helpkt.org and I’ll forward it to her.
Nothing I had ever learned or experienced [...]

Pain

In the first day I was admitted, I was given too much morphine and coded that night. Nurses weren’t able to wake me up. When I did come to, I had an ice pack on my chest and was surrounded by 6 or 7 nurses. After that episode, I wasn’t allowed morphine and had to endure the pain with oral pain pills exclusively. It did not work well.

Moving around is so hard now

I went to Borders with Nick to use a gift card I got while in the hospital. My elementary school library teacher gave it to me! She’s still at the school, now teaching my nephew. Since the neighborhood school is pretty closely knit, everyone at the school was pretty shocked to hear what had happened. [...]

Out of the hospital

Out of the hospital has been hard. I don’t like being static. This is the longest I’ve EVER been away from Nick, even before we were “serious.” I miss my cat. I miss having privacy, going to work, being able to get a glass of water for myself. I’m currently very dependent on others and [...]
